Batman Day honors 75 years of the Dark Knight

DC Comics will celebrate 75 years of Gotham’s top crime-fighter on July 23 with a national holiday.

Batman Day will feature free give-a-ways of a new “Batman” comic book.

Book stores, comic shops, and libraries will give away special editions of “Detective Comics #27.”

Barnes & Noble is among retailers participating in the nationwide promotion, according to DC Comics.

The limited edition features stories by Brad Meltzer, Scott Snyder, Bryan Hitch and Sean Murphy, as well as Batman’s first adventure, Bob Kane and Bill Finger’s “The Case of the Chemical Syndicate,” which originally debuted in 1939.

A New York City doctor says U2 singer Bono suffered multiple fractures and had to have two surgeries after his weekend bicycle accident. Orthopedic trauma surgeon Dr. Dean Lorich says Bono underwent a five-hour surgery on his elbow in which three plates and 18 screws were inserted on Sunday night. Bono had another surgery to repair a fracture to his left pinkie on Monday. Lorich says Bono will need therapy but a full recovery is expected.

Bono is a launching an all-star campaign featuring "once-in-a-lifetime experiences" like walking the red carpet with Meryl Streep or visiting the "Game of Thrones" set.
