Event Chairman and Jonesboro Alderman, Tim McCall, said the “FREE event will include music throughout the day, a Friday and Saturday BBQ contest, food, giveaways and fun for the entire family.” This year’s headlining musician will be Country Music Star Easton Corbin, who is the first country male artist in 17 years to have his first two consecutive singles reach No. 1- “A Little More Country Than That” and “Roll With It.”
The festival hosts the Kansas City Barbecue Society-sanctioned Arkansas State Championship. Event Coordinator Jack Turner said “Everybody’s got a shot to win some big cash. We have over 60 judges who travel from all over the country to judge. This is fun for some and serious business for many grillers.”
“The KCB Sanctioning has provided our event with national recognition.” McCall Explained. The Kansas City Barbecue Society (KCBS) is the largest BBQ organization in the world. Each year, the Grand Champion is invited to the American Royal and Jack Daniels World Championship. Turner said, “The past few years we have seen contestants from all over the country and as far away as Washington State. Last year’s event saw over 65 contestants competing for more than $10,000 in cash and prizes.” Over 70 judges are expected for the 2014 event.
McCall and Turner, who have organized the event since inception said they are “excited to have Corbin coming to jonesboro. Those attending will be in for a great show and to top it off, it’s FREE!” Corbin has made a name for himself in Nashville as a brilliant songwriter and musician. Corbin is past nominee for Top New Solo Vocalist as well as Single and Song of the Year for his debut hit, “A Little More Country Than That.” He won 2010 American Country Awards in every breakthrough artist category- Artist ofthe Year: Breakthrough Artist, as well as Single of the Year: BreakthroughArtist and Music Video: Breakthrough Artist for “A Little More Country Than That.” He tied with Lady Antebellum to earn the most nominations, garnering seven.
In addition, he received nominations for Best New Artist, and Single and Song of the Year for “A Little More Country Than That” at the 2010 Country Music Association Awards. Billboard named Easton the Top New Country Artist of 2010 and “Roll With It” the No.6 Hot Country Song of the Year, while “A Little More Country Than That” was ranked No. 19. His album was also named Country Breakthrough Album of the Year by iTunes Rewind. The Nashville Scene’s 11th annual Country Music Critics’ Poll named Easton the Best New Act of2010 and included his self-titled album in its Best Albums list at No. 19. “A Little More Country Than That” was ranked No.11on its Best Singles list.
Turner said “Like the previous shows in the past which included Night Ranger, Rick Springfield and 38 Special and Lee Brice, it is a FREE concert Music begins Downtown at noon with two stages of music all day ending with Easton Corbin at 8pm on the main stage. Other activities include activities for the kids, plenty of food, vendors, crafts and yes, even wrestling.” The “Mouth of the South,”

McCall, who also serves on the City’s A&P Commission, said “There has always been a desire for jonesboro to have its own signature event. From the start we envisioned this event to be a family oriented day which residents of all ayes can enjoy. McCall said,”From an economic development perspective, this event also allows us the opportunity to show our residents and neighbors in Northeast Arkansas who have not been to jonesboro in a while all the new growth including restaurants, shopping, and entertainment.”
