Rick Christian Saves Memphis Redbirds
Rick Christian Saves Memphis Redbirds

The Memphis City Council is giving the green light on the purchase of AutoZone Park. Council members approved the 19-and-a-half-million-dollar deal on Tuesday 8-to-4.  The acquisition clears the way for the St. Louis Cardinals to acquire the Memphis Redbirds. The Cardinals are expected to take over ownership of the team this season and work on improvements to ballpark as early as September.   A large group of fans — led by one Rick Christian of the Jonesboro Radio Group, who serves as an Auto Zone park announcer during the season —  marched from Auto Zone park to yesterday’s city council meeting in support of the city buying the park.  Read the story about the rally in The Daily News.  And the story where the council approves the deal.
