TREY'S BLACK EYE PEA SOUP RECIPE

Trey and Jenna’s New Year’s Day Black Eyed Pea Soup

We’ve been fixing this soup every year since about 1997.  It brings us luck every year!

¼ cup oil
1 ½ cup of hog jowl (for luck) or diced ham (if you don’t care about luck)
1 cup diced onion
28 ounce can diced tomatoes
¾ teaspoon minced garlic
¼ teaspoon salt
Sprinkle of pepper
2 beef bouillon cubes
1 can of original Rotel
5 16 ounce cans black eyed peas (for luck)
2 cups shredded cheddar

Sauté onion and hog jowl/ham in the oil until tender.  Add all the other ingredients.  Simmer for one hour.  Serve with corn bread.
 
Serves: An army!
