Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – September 28, 2024 – An 11-year-old juvenile male was taken into custody and taken to the juvenile detention center Friday after allegedly making threats at the Valley View Intermediate School.

The threat is the latest in a rash of similar threats being made at school throughout the region.

According to a post on the Valley View School Facebook page, three students made a report to administration that a Valley View Intermediate student made a threatening statement saying he was going to shoot up the school. The threat was allegedly made around 12:40pm Friday.

The post said as soon as the report was made, the intermediate administration and School Resource Officers (SROs) initiated an investigation of the statement that was made by the student. It was determined that the student did make the threatening statement. School Resource Officers reported the action to JPD’s Criminal Investigation Division, and the student was transported to JPD for further investigation.

The Jonesboro Police Department Facebook page shared a post that said “An 11-year-old juvenile male was brought in for questioning with his parents present. This young man was taken into custody and transported to the juvenile detention center.”

The JPD post also said “We encourage parents and guardians to talk to their school-age children about the seriousness of these comments and actions. To others, if you hear or see something, say something.”
