Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Sept. 16, 2024 – With the fair in town this week, it’s important to remember that large crowds, long lines, loud music, stimulating lights, and bright colors don’t feel great to everyone. But just because an individual might not be as receptive to the high stimulation the fair brings with it, it doesn’t mean they can’t participate in the fun of it.
Ag for Autism partnered with the Northeast Arkansas District Fair board to host their second annual Sensory Hours Event at the NEA District Fair. This event, which takes place on Sunday, September 22nd from 3-5 PM, provides an exclusive time in which families with children with sensory or disability needs can skip the long lines and enjoy a music-free fair environment. Because it takes place during the day, there will also be no extreme flashing lights.
Children and their families can play games, pet the animals, and ride rides with much more ease and less worry. The event was such a success the first year that Ag for Autism, a local organization dedicated to helping local children and families affected by autism, decided to host the event again. The event is ticket-only and is selling out fast.
Ag for Autism is a nonprofit organization that doesn’t endorse or support one single organization in particular but provides support to families with autistic children and sensory disabilities. Established in 2012, Ag for Autism brings together local agriculture-related (and some non-agricultural businesses) to hold fundraisers and offer grants to improve access to vital resources, therapies, and services.
If you or someone you know might be interested in attending the event, you will need to fill out a form specifying what types of therapy your child receives (physical, occupational, speech, or ABA). You can find the form to apply here.
