Disagreement over marijuana leads to shots fired

Source: Craighead County Sheriffs Office

Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Sept. 19, 2024 – A fight over marijuana led to shots fired and then an arrest.

JPD responded to a shots fired call on Sept. 16 in the 3500 block of Race Street. Witnesses say a man and a woman were arguing, and as the woman walked away, the man pulled out a gun and fired several rounds in her direction and into the air.

As officers knocked on the doors of an apartment complex to find the shooter, he fled the scene and tried to hide in an abandoned trailer nearby.

Reportedly, 21-year-old Trayvon Gooch was hiding in the trailer bathtub using a shower curtain as cover. Officers found a handgun, some bullets and a digital scale. Gooch also had a bag in his pocket that contained 1.4 grams of marijuana. He told the officers that the woman was his girlfriend of almost a year, and they lived together. They got into an argument about smoking marijuana. Gooch did confess to shooting the gun, but he said he just shot into the air and was not trying to actually shoot her.

Gooch was charged with assault on a household member, discharging firearms in the city limits, possession of drugs and paraphernalia and fleeing.

His bond was set at $250,000 and he has to wear an ankle monitor.
