Jonesboro man accused of fleeing accident scene

Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Dec. 2, 2024 – A Jonesboro man fled the scene of an accident while intoxicated on Thanksgiving, police said.

Jonesboro police responded to the intersection of Twin Oaks Avenue and Woodsprings Road around 9:30 p.m. on Thanksgiving about a vehicle accident. They found a vehicle wrecked in a nearby ditch with two people inside.

A witness told officers a man fled from the accident on foot. Officers searched the area and found the 30-year-old man on foot nearby, smelling strongly of intoxicants. The man told officers he’d consumed alcohol recently and drove the wrecked vehicle.

Officers also spoke with the victims, one of whom had a potentially serious injury due to the wreck. This victim told officers the man had been driving the car when it crashed. The victim was taken to St. Bernards’ Emergency Department and later transferred to Regional One in Memphis due to a spinal injury, according to the probable cause affidavit.

The man was arrested on Nov. 29 at 3 a.m. and is being held at the Craighead County Detention Center.

He is charged with one count of leaving the scene of an accident with personal injury and one count of driving while intoxicated.

He was given a court date of Jan. 24, 2025, at 8:30 a.m. and a $5,000 cash or surety bond.
