Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Dec. 6, 2024 – Jonesboro police have seen a recent increase in activity where subjects use U-Haul trucks to commit various crimes.
On Dec. 3, an officer saw a U-Haul leaving a hotel on Phillips Drive. He trailed the vehicle briefly and watched the driver pull into a mini storage complex off Parker Road. Given the time of night, the officer made contact with the driver, who happened to be on probation.
The officer deployed his K9 partner Rocket to sniff around the vehicle, and Rocket gave a positive alert. The U-Haul was then searched, and the officer found 0.8 grams of meth near the driver’s seat. The driver himself was searched and a pill bottle (with no label) containing seven Alprazolam tablets was found on him.
Given that the man was on probation, the officer opened the storage unit the driver said belonged to him. A search turned up several homemade pipes and a metal tray, all with meth residue. The man was taken into custody.
He was charged with possession of meth or cocaine and drug paraphernalia and given a bond of $20,000 cash or surety. He’s due in court on Jan. 24, 2025.
