Jonesboro, AR – Jonesboro Right Now – A Jonesboro man is being held on a $150,000 cash/surety bond after police said he rammed his partner’s vehicle with a child inside, put a baby in danger during a high-risk stop and resisted arrest.

District Judge Tommy Fowler found probable cause Aug. 12 to charge 28-year-old Jeremiah Isaiah Jones with the following offenses:

  • Four counts of aggravated assault on a family or household member (Class D felony)
  • Resisting arrest – refusal to submit to arrest / uses force (Class A misdemeanor)
  • Failure to yield to emergency vehicles (Unclassified misdemeanor)

According to the probable cause affidavit, on Aug. 10, Jonesboro police officers responded to La Torcia Brick Oven Pizza on East Highland Drive for two vehicles ramming each other in the parking lot.

When officers arrived, they saw a Dodge Charger matching the description of a vehicle involved with visible damage to its front leaving the scene. Police activated lights and sirens to pull over the vehicle. The driver, Jones, activated his emergency flashers and did not pull over until parking at a home in the 500 block of West Thomas Avenue.

Officers initiated high-risk stop procedures and ordered Jones to exit the vehicle at gunpoint. He did so, but refused to follow commands and walk toward them to be detained. Instead, according to the affidavit, Jones yelled “Just shoot me,” and obscenities to police.

Jones then yelled toward the home and asked a child to bring a baby to him. Officers tried to tell the child to go back inside, but she listened to Jones and gave the baby to him. Jones held the baby at his chest, between himself and officers who were attempting to conduct the stop at gunpoint.

Officers approached the vehicle to arrest Jones, who resisted their efforts and attempted to hang on to the baby during the struggle.

“His actions placed a wanton disregard for the child’s safety and could have resulted in the child being seriously injured,” the affidavit said. In addition to the danger to the baby, the affidavit notes that, in total, one adult victim and three children were in “serious danger” during the incident.

Eventually, officers were able to arrest Jones, and no one was harmed.

Other officers at the scene spoke with the victim. Evidence indicated that Jones rammed the victim’s car with his while her son was with her inside before attempting to flee the scene. The victim stated that she and Jones were in a relationship, and the incident started due to Jones being suspicious that the victim was cheating on him.

In addition to the $150,000 bond, Fowler ordered Jones to have no contact with the victim. Jones’ next court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 30.
