Jonesboro, AR – JonesboroRightNow.com – A judge set a $5 million cash/surety bond Friday for a Jonesboro man accused of shooting and killing another man following an argument on Belt Street Wednesday evening.

District Judge David Boling found probable cause Feb. 27 to charge 24-year-old Christian Rene Mcgee with first-degree murder (homicide), a class Y felony.

The charge stems from a shooting that occurred on Wednesday, Feb. 25, on the 2100 block of Belt Street. Responding officers found a man with gunshot wounds outside the residence, where he was pronounced dead at the scene. While the probable cause affidavit did not name the victim, Jonesboro police later identified him to JRN as 23-year-old Robert Larson.

When officers arrived, several witnesses pointed to Mcgee as the suspect. According to the affidavit, Mcgee approached officers and told them he was the shooter, and he was arrested.

During a Mirandized interview, Mcgee told investigators that he and Larson had been arguing outside his apartment. After the dispute ended and Larson began walking away, Mcgee yelled an insult at him. This prompted Larson to turn around, walk back to Mcgee’s apartment, and attempt to get him outside to fight.

Instead of stepping out, Mcgee admitted to grabbing a firearm, opening his door, and shooting Larson. According to the affidavit, Mcgee further explained that once Larson fell to the ground, he continued to shoot him in the back.

Given Mcgee’s ties to California and the fact that he has only lived in Arkansas for three years, Boling ordered him to wear a GPS ankle monitor in addition to the $5 million bond.

Mcgee’s next court appearance is scheduled for April 23.
