Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Arkansas State (3-0, 0-0 SBC) secured the sweep of the season-opening series against Stony Brook (0-3, 0-0 CAA) with three home runs in the seventh for a 12-5 eight-inning win at Slayton Family Field at Tomlinson Stadium Sunday afternoon

Dylan Farley steered the ship for the Red Wolves, on the mound for 5.0 innings in his A-State debut. Farley let up six hits but only two runs, while striking out seven batters along the way.

Offensively, the Red Wolves jumped from the start. The first six batters reached base safely and the Red Wolves batted around the order, making do off of singles, walks, and hit batters. The first runner scored by wild pitch, with the next touching home off an Evan Griffis single, followed by a bases-loaded walk and fielder’s choice. The fifth run came on another wild pitch and final run of the inning was from an infield throwing error.

A-State added another runoff a Cross Jumper sac fly in the second and Stony Brook finally notched a hit in the third, closely followed by another two to send one runner home. A solo Stony Brook homer in the fourth made it a 7-2 ball game, but Patrick Engskov returned the favor with an RBI double in the bottom of the inning, succeeded by a pinch-hit RBI single by Aidan Houseworth.

The Seawolves scored their third run from an RBI single in the top of the sixth, but it wasn’t until the seventh that A-State scored again, launching back-to-back home runs to lead off the inning from Houseworth and Derek Martinez. Ashton Quiller skied the third homerun of the inning to left field for the 12-3 advantage. Stony Brook added two runs in the top of the 8th, and a drop-dead time was reached before the start of the ninth inning.

Win: Dylan Farley (1-0)
Loss: Nicholas Rizzo (0-1)
