Statesboro, GA – Contributed – Arkansas State fell on the road at Georgia Southern, 60-69 Wednesday afternoon at Hill Convention Center.

Crislyn Rose and Zyion Shannon both scored 11 points, with Rose dishing out four assists, and Wynter Rogers led the team with eight rebounds.

The Red Wolves shot 31 percent (20-of-65) as Georgia Southern made 47 percent (24-of-51) from the field. The Red Wolves hit 7-of-21 (33 percent) from deep, and the Eagles went 5-of-12 (42 percent). The Red Wolves were outrebounded 39 to 36, but forced 22 turnovers compared to the 15 given up.

The Red Wolves were immediately put on their heels by Georgia Southern’s 11-0 run to open the game, and after a 7-2 scoring response for A-State, the Eagles returned, rattling off 14 points compared to A-State’s two in the final minutes of the half to leave a 27-9 deficit for the road team.

A Mia Tarver triple in the second quarter gave Arkansas State a spark, with five different Red Wolves combining for 13 points in the first half of the frame. A-State was held to just two more field goals the rest of the half and Southern made strides to extend their lead back out to 15 by halftime, up 39-24.

A-State marched forward with four threes in a five-minute span to go on an 18-4 run, leaving the difference only at 3 before the Eagles scored seven in a row for the double-digit lead again. A-State entered the fourth quarter down 11.

The two teams traded six points across the first few minutes, but Georgia Southern held the Red Wolves at arm’s length as the clock ticked away despite A-State reaching the free-throw line.

Arkansas State continues the road stretch at Marshall on Saturday, Feb. 14, at 12 p.m. The game will be streamed on ESPN+, and live stats can be found at astateredwolves.com/stats.
