Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Police arrested a Jonesboro man after they said he fought another person inside a home, resulting in the man pulling out a handgun and shooting the victim, all while a juvenile was inside the home.

According to an affidavit, on Nov. 23, Craighead County deputies were called to a home in the 2600 block of Craighead 712 Road for a shooting. After arriving, they were told an argument had occurred between 22-year-old Michael Joseph Lee Treat and the victim. The argument was, apparently, about Treat leaving the victim at Brickhouse Grill.

When Treat and the victim arrived at the residence, a witness said Treat shoved the victim, who shoved him back in return, and the two began to physically fight in the living room. The altercation spilled over into the kitchen/dining room area.

The affidavit said that Treat then pulled a handgun from his waistband and shot the victim once, hitting them in the abdomen. Treat ran out of the house to the road and was taken into custody by arriving officers. Police noted that a juvenile was inside the home when the shooting occurred.

On Nov. 24, a detective interviewed Treat at the sheriff’s office, who admitted to getting into an argument with the victim but said it was after leaving another person’s house. He also admitted having the gun on him, adding that he always carries it. No further questioning was conducted after Treat requested an attorney.

Treat appeared before District Judge Tommy Fowler on Nov. 24, who found probable cause to charge him with first-degree battery and second-degree endangering the welfare of a minor. He was given a temporary $75,000 cash/surety bond as no public defender was present at the hearing. He was also ordered to have no contact with the victim, and he must have no weapons upon release.

Treat is scheduled to be back in court on Dec. 16.
