Affidavit: Jonesboro man drove 100+ MPH in high-speed chase in stolen vehicle

Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Multiple agencies took part in a high-speed chase on New Year’s Day in Jonesboro, in which court documents said that the suspect drove over 100 miles per hour in a stolen vehicle.

Circuit Judge Barbara Halsey found probable cause on Jan. 2 to charge 40-year-old David Kadrian Medina with the following:

Class D Felony: Fleeing in a vehicle
Class D Felony: Criminal mischief
Class D Felony: Theft by receiving
Class B Misdemeanor: Reckless driving
Class C Misdemeanor: Speeding more than 15 miles per hour
Misdemeanor: Failure to stop at a red light
Misdemeanor: Driving on a suspended license

According to the affidavit, at 8:05 p.m. Jan. 1, Arkansas State Police Sergeant Chris Davenport was notified by Troop C dispatch that Trumann police were after a stolen vehicle out of Jonesboro that was on Interstate 555.

At 8:13 p.m., Davenport took the lead in the chase near the 42-mile marker. He saw Medina driving at over 100 miles per hour and attempted a tactical vehicle intervention (TVI) on the vehicle. Police said this caused Medina to run off the road into a ditch and hit a Highway Department fence, causing damage.

Despite this, Medina was able to drive out of the ditch onto Apache Drive and continued onto Red Wolf Boulevard. The affidavit stated that Davenport continued following Medina, noticing him driving recklessly, entering oncoming traffic, and running red lights before turning onto Highland Drive, then later Caraway Road.

As they passed East Nettleton Avenue, Davenport tried to conduct another TVI, but Medina swerved into a parking lot. Trooper Brian Merrill joined the chase and assumed the lead.

The affidavit said that Medina got back onto Caraway Road, where Merrill performed the TVI, causing the vehicle to slide into a curb and stop. Multiple agencies, including Jonesboro and Trumann police, and the Craighead County Sheriff’s Office, helped with arresting Medina and the passenger. Medina is being held in the Craighead County Detention Center on a $250,000 cash/surety bond.
