Jonesboro, AR – (Contributed) – The Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas was awarded a $10,000 grant from the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation to provide and distribute fresh produce to neighbors facing food insecurity and hunger in Craighead County.

Volunteers from the Epsilon Zeta chapter of Alpha Gamma Delta at Arkansas State University joined employees of the Food Bank to distribute fresh produce in Jonesboro on Oct. 1.

At that distribution, 36,000 pounds of fresh produce, in addition to shelf-stable food items, was provided to neighbors facing hunger in the city and county.

“Our friends at Alpha Gamma Delta are deeply invested in our mission,” said Rebecca Hendrix, chief
development officer at the Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas. “We are thankful for the grant from their foundation, and for the hard work of their volunteers, as we work together to fight food insecurity in Northeast Arkansas.”

During its 2023-24 fiscal year, the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation awarded $275,000 to 40 organizations across the U.S. and Canada fighting hunger in their communities. This grant marks $1.795 million awarded by the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation in its efforts to help fight hunger since 2017.

“We’re proud to recognize the Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas as one who shows up every day to fight food insecurity head on,” Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation CEO Julie Waitman states. “The importance of fighting hunger organizations cannot be overstated, and we’re committed to stand alongside them.”
