Newport, AR – Contributed – The Arkansas State University-Newport Medication Assistant Training Program has earned statewide recognition after achieving a 100% overall certification exam pass rate for the 2026 fiscal year.

The Arkansas State Board of Nursing presented the program with a Certificate of Excellence recognizing ASU-Newport’s achievement in Medication Assistant education. The results cover the testing period from July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026.

The overall pass rate includes both students taking the certification examination for the first time and those retaking the examination. ASU-Newport also met the Board of Nursing’s required annual benchmark for first-time testers.

“This achievement reflects the dedication of our faculty and the determination of our students,” said Dr. Stacie Hay, dean for Nursing and Health Professions at ASU-Newport. “Our instructors work diligently to ensure students have the knowledge, skills and support they need to succeed throughout the certification process and enter the healthcare workforce prepared to serve others.”

In its official letter of recognition, the Arkansas State Board of Nursing commended ASU-Newport’s faculty for their commitment to academic excellence and dedication to healthcare education in Arkansas. The board noted that the program’s perfect overall pass rate demonstrates its effectiveness in supporting students throughout the certification process.

“Results like this show what our students can accomplish when talented faculty members combine high expectations with meaningful support,” said Dr. Typhanie Myers, provost and vice chancellor of Academic and Student Affairs at ASU-Newport. “We are incredibly proud of everyone involved in the Medication Assistant program and of the important role they play in preparing qualified healthcare professionals for the communities we serve.”

ASU-Newport’s Medication Assistant Certified program is an eight-week Certificate of Proficiency offered during the summer at the Newport campus. The program provides theoretical instruction and practical clinical training in pharmacology, medication administration techniques, patient communication and documentation.

Students learn to prepare and administer medications, monitor patient responses and support the safe and effective delivery of patient care. Graduates are prepared to pursue opportunities as medication assistants in nursing homes, assisted living facilities and other healthcare settings.
