Newport, AR – Contributed – Arkansas State University-Newport has announced the appointment of Lindley Gilliaum as dean of Applied Trades, continuing a decade of service and leadership at the institution.
Gilliaum joined ASU-Newport in 2016 and has served in progressively responsible roles, including Agricultural Technology Instructor, IGNITE Academy Coordinator and, most recently, Associate Dean for Applied Sciences on the Newport campus.
Throughout her tenure, she has worked to strengthen academic programs, support faculty and students, expand community and industry partnerships, and secure additional resources for technical education.
“Lindley has been a valued member of the ASUN team since 2016 and has demonstrated a strong commitment to student success, faculty support and program development throughout her tenure,” said Dr. Typhanie Myers, provost and vice chancellor for academic and student affairs. “Her proven leadership, institutional knowledge and record of service to both ASU-Newport and the community make her exceptionally well prepared to lead the Applied Trades division.”

As dean of Applied Trades, Gilliaum will provide leadership and oversight for Commercial Driver Training, Diesel Technology, Cosmetology and Esthetics, Agricultural Technology, Culinary Arts, and Automotive Service Technology. Based on the Newport campus, she will work with programs and faculty across ASU-Newport’s Newport, Jonesboro and Marked Tree locations.
The dean also provides leadership in program development and assessment, faculty support, industry and community partnerships, accreditation and program review, and the pursuit of external resources to support the continued growth and sustainability of the division.
Grant development has been an important part of Gilliaum’s work at ASU-Newport. Most recently, she assisted in securing a $25,000 King Foundation grant and an $11,000 Arkansas Soybean Promotion Board grant. Her previous work has also included successful grant development supporting Agricultural Technology and workforce initiatives.
Gilliaum was recognized as ASU-Newport’s 2025–2026 NISOD Excellence Award recipient in recognition of her contributions to the college and its students.
She earned a Master of Science in Agriculture from Arkansas State University in 2018 and is currently completing a Doctorate in Rural Education with an emphasis in Higher Education Administration from the University of West Alabama, with completion anticipated this fall.
“Lindley brings a combination of academic leadership, industry knowledge and a genuine commitment to the communities we serve,” Myers said. “I am confident she will continue to strengthen these programs and create opportunities for our students and the industries that depend on their skills.”
Gilliaum’s appointment reflects ASU-Newport’s continued commitment to strong academic leadership, industry-responsive education and expanding opportunities for students preparing to enter Arkansas’ skilled workforce.
