Jonesboro, AR – (Contributed) – Aug. 23, 2025 – St. Bernards Healthcare announced the arrival of cerebrovascular neurosurgeon Nicolas “Nick” Khattar, M.D., who joins the growing team of expert neurosurgeons practicing at St. Bernards Medical Center.

Dr. Khattar arrives at St. Bernards after completing a cerebrovascular fellowship at the Semmes-Murpey Clinic in Memphis. He brings several new surgical options to St. Bernards, including the ability to remove clots from blood vessels in the brain, a procedure known as a mechanical thrombectomy.

This intervention treats strokes by restoring blood flow and minimizing damage to the brain. Dr. Khattar also completed a complex spine fellowship, after his residency at the University of Louisville.

Alice Cherqui, M.D., St. Bernards Chief of Neurosurgery, said that Dr. Khattar’s training and experience combined with the team already in place at St. Bernards expands the care options available to the community.

“We are proud to welcome Dr. Nicholas Khattar, a distinguished cerebrovascular neurosurgeon whose expertise in stroke, aneurysm and complex brain vessel disorders brings cutting-edge care to our community,” Dr. Cherqui said. “With precision, innovation and compassion, St. Bernards Neurosurgery is transforming the future of brain health, one patient at a time.”

Dr. Khattar is a well-published researcher, and holds memberships with numerous prestigious professional organizations, including the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons and the Society for Neuro-Interventional Surgery.

In his spare time, Dr. Khattar enjoys sailing, playing the piano, and kayaking. A native of Lebanon, he graduated medical school from the American University of Beirut Faculty of Medicine. He lives in Jonesboro with his wife, Clare, an attorney, and their son, Henry.
