Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Aug. 18, 2025 – Members of the Jonesboro Public Safety Council Committee Tuesday will hear initial findings and recommendations from a study of the Downtown Jonesboro traffic patterns.

Martin Smith, manager of Ecological Design Group (EDG), is on Tuesday’s agenda to present findings from a pilot program study. The study was funded in June with a $7,500 allocation from the Jonesboro Advertising and Promotion Commission (A&P).

Jonesboro Connectivity Committee Chairman Andy Shatley told the A&P commission members at the June meeting that a lot of people had emphasized how the downtown atmosphere dynamics changed during the shutdown of Main Street for the demolition of the former Citizens Bank building.

After discussing what could be done to enhance the downtown environment with several people, including the Downtown Jonesboro Association, business owners, patrons, and residents, Shatley said one of the things that continued to come up was potentially one-lane traffic.

Smith’s report and recommendations are expected to suggest a first-phase solution that will include one-way Main Street traffic from Washington to Cate.

Tuesday’s committee meeting begins at 5 p.m. in the City Council Chambers on the first floor of the Municipal Building, located at 300 S. Church St.
