Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Aug. 7, 2025 – Craighead County Sheriff Marty Boyd announced Thursday he would not be seeking re-election for sheriff.

“It has been the honor of a lifetime to serve the citizens of Craighead County as their Sheriff,” Boyd said in a news release. “I am incredibly grateful for the support the community has shown me, my deputies, and my detention officers. I’m immensely proud of what we’ve accomplished together in making our county a safer, more prosperous place.”

Boyd began his career in 1991 with the Craighead County Detention Center and transitioned to the Sheriff’s Office in 1992. He served in many capacities until 2012, when he was elected as sheriff of Craighead County. At his term’s end, he will have completed 14 years as sheriff and over 35 years in law enforcement.

Boyd helped establish the Crisis Stabilization Unit, which provides treatment to those who need it and lessens the strain on our court system. He has also added more deputies, school resource officers, and special task force teams, and provided critical incident training for all officers.

Boyd was awarded the Arkansas Elected Official of the Year in 2018. He was named the 2019 Attorney General Outstanding Law Enforcement Officer of the Year, among others.

He was also placed on multiple Governor’s Task Forces, served on the Arkansas Sheriff’s Association Board (President 2021-2022), and serves on the Arkansas Association of Counties Board, according to the release.

In the release, he extended his heartfelt thanks to the citizens for their continued trust and to the men and women behind the Craighead County badge serving with honor, integrity, and loyalty under his leadership.

Boyd will continue to serve the remainder of his term. He said he looks forward to ensuring a seamless transition for the next individual to lead the Sheriff’s Office.
