Craighead County, AR – JonesboroRightNow.com – Craighead County will go under a freeze warning this evening due to incoming subfreezing temperatures.

Cold temperatures followed Sunday night’s storms. The National Weather Service in Memphis said temperatures as low as 20°F were expected. The warning goes into effect at 8 p.m. Monday and lasts until noon Tuesday.

“Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, other sensitive vegetation, and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing,” the NWS said. “Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold.”

For those needing protection from cold temperatures, Capt. Charles Smith with the Salvation Army of Jonesboro said the organization will be taking people into its regular shelter. The organization is located at 800 Cate Ave.

Temperatures stay cold Monday and Tuesday, although warmer weather will begin to move in heading into Wednesday. Warm temperatures return at the end of the week, with highs forecasted to be in the 70s-80s.
