Craighead County Under Enhanced Thunderstorm Risk

Jonesboro, AR – JonesboroRightNow.com – According to the National Weather Service (NWS), Craighead and surrounding counties are under an enhanced risk for severe thunderstorms, thunderstorm wind, and excessive rainfall for Tuesday into the evening.

An enhanced risk is defined as a 30-45% chance of severe wind gusts (58 mph or greater) within a 25-mile radius. In addition, Jonesboro and the surrounding areas are under a moderate risk of lightning and a slight risk of tornado and hail.

Parts of Craighead County went under a tornado warning early Tuesday morning.

The forecast in Jonesboro shows a humid but calm start. Following a night of severe weather and tornado warnings, the atmosphere is stabilizing in the morning. However, rising pressure could precede a significant shift in the region later in the afternoon.

An 84% chance of showers and heavy thunderstorms is expected to develop after 2 p.m. The temperature on Tuesday is expected to be between 77ºF and 81ºF with a low of 62ºF. North winds at 5 mph may shift to the south/southeast and increase to 10 to 15 mph as the storm system approaches.
