Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Crews responded to a structure fire on Nettleton Avenue.

In a message sent at 12:09 p.m., Jonesboro E-911 Dispatch said the fire was in the 5600 block of Nettleton Avenue.

Jonesboro Fire Department Chief Marty Hamrick said firefighters arrived at the building, which is an old warehouse, around 12:05 p.m. He said there were no injuries, but that the building was “heavily damaged by fire.”

He added that crews are waiting on the arrival of heavy equipment to begin investigating the fire’s cause.

“We’re waiting on the excavator to get out here so we can pull the walls away from it and be able to get in and start determining a few things,” Hamrick said. “It was a steel building, so that all that collapsed in on itself, so that’s why we’re still here waiting on some heavy equipment to help us dig it out.”

Roads surrounding the area are still shut down, Hamrick said. Motorists are asked to avoid the area, use a different route if possible, and watch for emergency vehicles.
