Jonesboro, AR – Contributed – The Department of Art + Design at Arkansas State University is currently hosting the Mid-South Print Exhibition.
This event will culminate with the fifth annual Print Symposium, held from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 26, in rooms 107 and 108 of the Fine Arts Center and Bradbury Art Museum.
This event is being held in conjunction with the 30th annual Delta National Small Prints Exhibition at Bradbury Art Museum (BAM). This symposium was organized by M. Robyn Wall, assistant professor of printmaking, and Paden Devita, BAM education coordinator.
“A-State printmaking students will welcome visiting artists Tate Foley, Sophie Isaak, Jessie Hornbook, Kaleena Stasiak, and Dustin Brinkman, along with students from the University of Central Arkansas, Lyon College and the University of Mississippi,” said Wall.
On the final day of the exhibition, students will have the opportunity to provide presentations of their portfolios in a tabling format and will give artist talks from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. in the Grand Hall of Fowler Center.
“Visiting artist Tate Foley of St. Louis will host a Risograph demonstration at the printmaking studio, exploring collage through mark-making and textural elements,” Wall added. “There has been a recent resurgence in popularity of this print technology that acts as a cross between a photocopier and screen printing for self-publishing zines, posters and comics.”
Sophie Isaak of Lincoln, NE, will present an interactive demonstration on monotypes in the printmaking studio. Monotypes are a form of printmaking that embraces drawing, stencils and a painterly approach to the medium.
The Mid-South Prints Exhibition will have a closing reception from 4 – 5 p.m. in the Fine Art Center Gallery, room 102. The student print exchange exhibition will also be on view, featuring artwork created for the symposium in the Fine Art Center Printmakers Gallery.
