UPDATE | Free rides to Jonesboro warming centers not affected by JET closure

Update Jan. 27:

The City of Jonesboro will open warming shelters on Tuesday, Jan. 27, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Salvation Army’s overnight warming shelter will open check-in from 4 to 5 p.m. Those needing a ride to a warming shelter are still asked to call (870) 935-5553, to make arrangements.

Update Jan. 25:

City offices will be closed on Monday, Jan. 26, which includes JET. Those needing a ride to a warming center are asked to call JPD’s non-emergency number, (870) 935-5553, to make arrangements. JPD will only provide rides to warming shelters, including the Salvation Army’s overnight shelter.

“While City offices & non-essential services are closed, the City of Jonesboro will open warming shelters on Monday, January 26, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.,” a City of Jonesboro Facebook post said.

Previously:

Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Despite Jonesboro Economic Transit (JET) services closing today, rides to warming centers will not be affected.

JET posted on its Facebook that due to unsafe road conditions, it would not be running routes or services on Saturday, Jan. 24.

JET had been providing free rides to warming shelters run by both the City of Jonesboro and the Salvation Army. Despite this, rides to warming shelters will not be affected by the closure.

Those needing a ride to a City of Jonesboro or Salvation Army warming center are asked to call the Jonesboro Police Department’s non-emergency number, which is (870) 935-5553, to make arrangements.

Lynette Hirsch, community engagement and marketing coordinator for the city, told JRN those who had been staying at the Salvation Army’s overnight shelter were transported to the Earl Bell Community Center, which opened early.

“For everyone’s safety, residents are encouraged to stay home if possible and avoid traveling on icy roads,” a City of Jonesboro Facebook post announcing the change said.
