Jonesboro, AR – Jonesboro Right Now – The Jonesboro City Council on Thursday approved two resolutions Thursday night regarding the purchase of playground equipment for a new planned park on Disciple Drive.

According to the first resolution, the city will enter into an agreement with ACS Playground Adventure, which will provide and install the playground and turf surfacing. This will cost $602,041, with funding to come from the city’s capital improvement budget.

The second resolution will see the city enter into an agreement with Landscape Structures, which will provide a custom playground package for the new park for $807,722.74. Funding for this will also come from the city’s capital improvement budget.

The playground will be located in a new planned park on Disciple Drive on Hilltop, which city officials said during Thursday’s meeting would hopefully be completed by the end of summer 2027.

In addition to the playground, the park will also feature a splashpad, walking trails, green space, and more, city officials said.

The city’s engineering director, Craig Light, said during the meeting that officials planned to put the full park’s construction out to bid in early 2027. He added that the city had a general footprint of the park facility.

“The advantage of what the conceptual part of this is, we’re going to take the natural layout of the current property and utilize it,” Jonesboro mayor Harold Copenhaver said in the meeting. “You’re going to see the naturalization of trees being used. We’re going to bring in dirt work to build mounds up versus digging in.”

Both resolutions were on the consent agenda, meaning they are considered to be routine business and are enacted by one motion of the City Council with no discussion. They can be pulled off the consent agenda for discussion, which occurred during the meeting, but are still enacted in one motion.

The council’s meeting was rescheduled from its usual Tuesday to Thursday due to National Night Out.
