Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Police arrested a Jonesboro man after they said he kept a victim from leaving an apartment and hurt her during a fight, even choking her near the point of unconsciousness.

On Nov. 24, District Judge Tommy Fowler found probable cause to charge 40-year-old Clarence Brown-Mutcherson with first-degree kidnapping/false imprisonment, and aggravated assault on a family or household member. The charges stem from a reported domestic disturbance that Jonesboro police officers responded to on Nov. 21 in the 300 block of Garden Manor.

According to the affidavit, officers looked through a window and saw a couple inside the apartment fighting. Officers knocked on the door, and a woman answered. Those involved in the fight were ordered to come to the door, to which the victim approached.

Upon the victim approaching the officers, they noted visible injuries on the victim, including a swollen face and lips, and multiple scratches across her face and arms. Offices also remarked that the victim was visibly upset and crying.

The victim told officers Brown would not let her leave the house. The affidavit said officers checked the apartment and found Brown hiding in a bedroom closet, lying on the floor, and covered with clothing.

The victim said she had attempted to leave the home multiple times, but Brown grabbed and threw her down, striking her multiple times with a closed fist. Furthermore, the victim said that, at one point, Brown choked her to the point she was unable to breathe and was almost unconscious.

Based on these statements, Brown was arrested and taken to the Craighead County Detention Center, where he is being held on a temporary $50,000 cash/surety bond, as no public defender was present at Monday’s hearing. Fowler also ordered Brown to have no contact with the victim and wear a GPS ankle monitor upon release.

Brown’s next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 23, 2026.
