Jonesboro, AR – Jonesboro Right Now – A Jonesboro man is behind bars after police said doorbell camera footage linked him to a masked break-in attempt and the theft of a video game console.

District Judge David Boling found probable cause Aug. 19 to charge 21-year-old Michael J’shun Trotter with the following offenses:

  • Criminal attempt – aggravated residential burglary (Class B felony)
  • Residential burglary (Class B felony)
  • Theft $1,000 or less – from building (Class A misdemeanor)

According to the probable cause affidavit, on July 30, witnesses at a home in the 1400 block of West College Avenue said their Xbox was stolen.

They explained that earlier in the day, their Ring doorbell camera showed a man that had been cutting their grass on occasion leaving with a large bulge in his short pocket that resembled the size and shape of the console. They were unaware of the man’s name and had been primarily speaking to another man working with him.

Upon examining the footage further, a detective found days prior that the same man came to their front door masked up wearing all black with his hand in his pocket as if he had a weapon.

After trying to open the door, the man seemed startled and ran away. Despite the mask, the detective was able to confirm he was the same person that had spoken to the victims previously due to his appearance.

On Aug. 18, while assisting probation and parole with a search, the detective recovered the stolen Xbox in a room subject to search through probation.

The probation officers witnessed the suspect, who was identified as Trotter, putting something away in the closet when they walked in. They then found the stolen Xbox which was confirmed to be the victim’s due to the serial number.

In a Mirandized interview, Trotter admitted to attempting to entering the home while pretending to have a gun in his pocket, then coming back and stealing the Xbox.

Trotter is being held on a $75,000 cash/surety bond awaiting his next scheduled court appearance for Sept. 30.
