Jonesboro, AR – Jonesboro Right Now – A Jonesboro man is behind bars after police said he sexually groomed a child.

On May 26, an investigation was opened into an incident involving 60-year-old Tim Dwayne Ohler and the child.

According to the probable cause affidavit, the victim reported to a family member that Ohler had engaged in various sexually explicit acts with the victim and made the victim think “that behavior was okay.”

The victim and other children were interviewed by police. While the victim disclosed the events that occurred, the other children denied anything sexual had happened between them and Ohler.

A detective who reviewed the case spoke with Ohler’s son. He told the detective that once the family found out about the accusation, Ohler was confronted in his home, with the whole conversation being recorded.

In the recording, Ohler denied most of the allegations but corroborated some of what the victim said had occurred. He said he did not know how to handle the situation and was embarrassed to tell anyone about it. The recording ended with Ohler saying “he had a problem” and agreed to go to rehab.

The detective spoke with Ohler, who said he was aware of the accusations and believed it was “just a big misunderstanding.”

Ohler told the detective he had some “uncomfortable conversations” with the victim, which started when the victim asked him questions that were at times sexual in nature. According to the affidavit, Ohler said he was unsure how to handle or answer some of the questions but felt he was asked because the victim felt comfortable with him.

Ohler was arrested and booked into the Craighead County Detention Center at 9:12 a.m. on Aug. 5, the online jail roster shows.

He appeared before Judge Ralph Wilson hours later, who found probable cause to charge Ohler with sexually grooming a child, a class D felony. He was also ordered to have no contact with the victim and wear a GPS ankle monitor upon release.

Ohler is being held on a $75,000 cash/surety bond awaiting his next scheduled court appearance for Sept. 30.
