Jonesboro, AR – Jonesboro Right Now – A Jonesboro man is being held on a $100,000 cash/surety bond after police said he fired a shot from a moving vehicle while leaving a local nightclub.

District Judge David Boling found probable cause July 27 to charge 31-year-old Robert Lee Posey with the following offenses:

According to the probable cause affidavit, on July 24, a Jonesboro police officer working uniformed security at Midnight Rodeo was standing out front when a Pontiac G6 pulled out of the parking lot. As it went on Fair Park Boulevard, a gunshot was heard coming from the passenger side of the vehicle.

The officer went after the vehicle to conduct a stop as it attempted to evade traffic. The officer caught up with the vehicle at Bittle Street and Creek Drive and conducted a stop. Posey, sitting in the passenger side of the vehicle, was noted as being a convicted felon and on active parole with a search waiver on file. He was asked to exit the vehicle and complied.

During a search of the vehicle, the officer found a loaded 9mm handgun and spare magazine under the seat where Posey had been sitting, which he denied knowing was there. The driver told the officer that she didn’t know Posey had the gun until he pulled it out and fired a shot out the window when they were leaving Midnight Rodeo.

In determining the $100,000 bond, Boling noted that Posey’s criminal history included a fleeing case in 2017, and seven out of 11 of his previous charges involved firearms. He added that there were concerns of intimidating a witness in the case.

Posey’s next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 21. If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison and fines up to $15,000.
