Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – A Jonesboro man is being held on a $150,000 cash/surety bond after police said he told a juvenile to open fire on a vehicle Sunday morning, resulting in injury to the driver.

Circuit Judge Barbara Halsey found probable cause on Jan. 5 to charge 19-year-old Avion Jones with the following:

  • Class B Felony: Terroristic act (conveyance)
  • Unclassified: Criminal attempt
  • Class A Misdemeanor: Contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile

According to the affidavit, on Jan. 4, Jonesboro police officers responded to the 2200 block of Una Street for a shooting. There, they contacted witnesses, including Jones and a juvenile suspect. Officers also found the victims during a traffic stop.

The victims told officers that their vehicle had been struck by gunfire while leaving the area. Police said the driver of the vehicle was found to be bleeding due to the shattered glass from the vehicle window.

Witnesses and victims were taken to the Jonesboro Police Department for further investigation. In a Mirandized interview, Jones said that he was on the phone with the juvenile suspect and told him that the victims were present. The affidavit said Jones admitted he told the juvenile suspect that if he was going to shoot, then go ahead and shoot.

Jones told police that shortly after, the juvenile suspect began shooting at the victims’ vehicle as it was driving away. It was hit multiple times, leaving damage to the vehicle and the noted injury to the driver.

The online jail roster shows Jones was arrested at 7:17 a.m. the same day.

In addition to the $150,000 bond, Jones was ordered to wear a GPS ankle monitor upon release and have no contact with the victim.

Jones’ next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 27.
