Jonesboro, AR – Jonesboro Right Now – A Jonesboro organization is collecting donations for kids for its school supply giveaway.

The McCullough Watkins Youth Foundation (MWYF) will be hosting its third annual Back to School Giveaway, which aims to provide backpacks and school supplies to students of all ages. MWYF founder Jamyra Dority told JRN she aims to give away at least 300 backpacks.

“I want every child to be able to pick out their backpack,” Dority said. “I allow the child to come up and decide on which backpack they want. So, the biggest thing we need right now is actual backpacks and any school supplies.”

Backpacks and supplies will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis. The child or children must be present to receive supplies. Additionally, community resource vendors and free food will be provided at the event.

For those wanting to donate, the donation drive began July 1 and concludes Aug. 1.

There are two online registries for the event, which will be delivered directly to Dority. The Amazon registry is here, and the Walmart one is here. Donations can also be dropped off at EbonyX Beauty Supply, located at 3522 E. Nettleton Ave.

Dority said volunteers were still needed for the day of the event. There is no sign-up process; volunteers are simply asked to show up at the event location at 9 a.m. Volunteers will assist with handing out food, supplies, check-in, and more.

The giveaway is scheduled for Aug. 1 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Parker Park Community Center, located at 1506 N. Church St.

“I just want every child to be prepared and ready for the school year,” Dority said. “It’s just to help the kids. I know it’s a tough time for everybody right now, so if I can help any way I can, I want to do that.”
