Update Sept. 22:

The Jonesboro Police Department released a statement regarding the shots fired calls reported Saturday night at the Northeast Arkansas District Fair.

In a news release, JPD said when officers were working security at the event, someone in the crowd said shots had been fired.

“Our investigation into the events did not uncover evidence to substantiate that a person fired a weapon or if anyone suffered a gunshot wound. Ambulances did respond to other medical emergencies not directly related to a gunshot,” the release said.

It added that the department was aware of “social media chatter” regarding the incident and that multiple sources had been interviewed with “no evidence presented to the department.”

The release said if anyone has evidence to confirm that shots were fired, they are encouraged to share witness statements and video with the Criminal Investigation Division, which can be reached at (870) 935-6710.

“Uniformed officers work the midway from the opening of the gates to when the crowd leaves. Officers are also in place for parking. If you see something that could be construed as a danger, please get in touch with the officers throughout the grounds. We are there to make sure EVERYONE is safe during this event. Please be mindful of your surroundings, and if you see something, say something,” the release said.
