Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Sept. 19, 2025 – A Jonesboro road will be closed starting next week for a sewer improvement project.

According to a Facebook post from the City of Jonesboro, West Matthews Avenue from Madison to McClure streets will be closed Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. starting on Sept. 22.

The post said the project is expected to be completed Oct. 3, weather permitting. The road will be open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

The post added that Flint Street will remain open most of the time, but the section between Jefferson and Warner avenues may briefly close when intersection work is required. Flint Street closures will not begin until after 8 a.m. and will only last a few hours at a time, the post said.

The closure is for a pipe bursting project in coordination with City Water and Light of Jonesboro (CWL).

Slade Mitchell, energy marketing administrator for CWL, told JRN the project was to keep the wastewater system in the area in “good working order.”

“This area of town is an area with aging infrastructure, so this pipe-bursting technique allows us to replace existing wastewater pipe with far less digging than an open-trench type technique,” he said.
