Jonesboro, AR – Jonesboro Right Now – A Jonesboro woman is behind bars after police said she intentionally struck her boyfriend with a vehicle during an argument and chased him on foot.

District Judge David Boling found probable cause Aug. 19 to charge 19-year-old Anteunna Shy’onesti Smith with the following offenses:

• Aggravated assault on a family or household member (Class D felony)
• Driving while license cancelled, suspended or revoked (Unclassified misdemeanor)

According to the probable cause affidavit, on Aug. 15, Jonesboro police officers responded to the 600 block of Southwest Drive for a pedestrian accident. They met witnesses who said they saw the victim walking on the sidewalk and arguing with Smith who was driving in a vehicle alongside the victim.

A witness said Smith turned the vehicle sideways and attempted to block the victim’s path. The victim then began to run away from Smith, who then intentionally drove toward the victim and struck him in the road. The victim went up on the hood then continued to run.

Smith continued to drive and follow the victim into a parking lot where she got out and chased the victim on foot across the road. The victim ran out of his shoes that were still in the road.

Officers the found the victim who ran into a building nearby. The victim and Smith were seen exiting the building together until they saw an officer exiting their patrol vehicle. The two went back inside where contact was made with them.

The officer noted that both the victim and Smith were tired, out of breath, and acting confused. Smith said that she was attempting to make a U-turn and accidentally bumped the victim. It was added that the victim and Smith were in a dating relationship.

Traffic camera footage showed the vehicle cutting the victim’s path off. When the victim attempted to go around the vehicle, Smith made a U-turn in the parking lot and sped toward the victim.

“It appears the victim was targeted and after the contact was made, Smith continued to chase the victim in the car before exiting the car and chasing the victim on foot,” the affidavit stated, noting that Smith’s license is suspended out of Blytheville.

Smith is being held on a $35,000 cash/surety bond awaiting her next scheduled court appearance for Sept. 30.
