Jonesboro, AR – Jonesboro Right Now – Finding a new best friend often starts right in our own backyard, and bringing a rescue pet into your home brings unmatched reward.

Each week, Jonesboro Right Now teams up with the Northeast Arkansas Humane Society (NEAHS) to feature local pets available for adoption. This week’s featured pets are Agatha, a sweet, young mother cat looking for her forever home, and Sonny, a resilient shepherd mix who has been patiently waiting at the shelter for eight months. Here are the Jonesboro Right Now Pets of the Week:

Meet Sonny: A Resilient Companion Ready for a Fresh Start

Sonny is an almost 7-year-old male shepherd mix who proves that age is just a number. Medium-sized and full of energy, Sonny has spent the last eight months at the shelter waiting for his second chance. He arrived heartworm-positive, but thanks to dedicated care, he has successfully completed his treatment and is fully healthy, neutered, microchipped, and current on all vaccines and preventatives.

While Sonny can be a little shy when meeting new faces, his true personality shines once he gets comfortable. Shelter staff knows him as a sweet, playful dog who loves spending time with familiar people and canine friends alike.

Meet Agatha: Small in Size, Big on Affection

Agatha is a 1-year-old female domestic shorthair on the smaller side who arrived at the shelter just a week ago alongside her four kittens. She is up to date on all vaccinations and preventives, and she will be spayed and microchipped before heading to her new home.

Despite her busy start as a young mother, Agatha has quickly become a shelter staff favorite. Known for her pretty looks and exceptionally friendly, affectionate personality, she has plenty of love to give and will make a wonderful, warm addition to any household.

How You Can Help

If you are unable to adopt a pet at this time, you can still assist Agatha and Sonny by sharing this article on social media or sending it to friends and neighbors. Helping spread the word increases their visibility and helps connect them with potential adopters in Northeast Arkansas.

Mark Your Calendar: The Northeast Arkansas Humane Society will be hosting a live adoption event at Petco on Saturday, Aug. 8, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Stop by to meet a great lineup of dogs ready to find their forever homes!
