Lake City traffic stop reveals fentanyl, other drugs

Source: Craighead County Sheriff's Office

Lake City, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Feb. 18, 2025 – A traffic stop in Lake City led to the discovery of multiple drugs, including fentanyl.

On Feb. 14, a deputy with the Craighead County Sheriff’s Office was patrolling in Lake City when a truck in front of him began driving erratically, running off the sides of the roads and into oncoming lanes.

The deputy followed the vehicle to Highway 18 and conducted a traffic stop. As he approached the vehicle, the deputy smelled a strong odor of marijuana. While speaking with the driver, 56-year-old Geoffrey Woodruff of Lake City, he seemed confused, mumbled and showed signs of intoxication, according to the probable cause affidavit.

The deputy noticed a gun in the vehicle, and due to Woodruff’s erratic behavior, he was asked to step out. Woodruff verbally consented to a search of his person, during which the deputy found three pill bottles and a green box. Woodruff was handcuffed and placed in the deputy’s patrol car.

The deputy returned to his patrol car and examined the pills found on Woodruff, noticing they contained various suspected narcotics. As he was attempting to examine one of the pills, Woodruff reportedly said from the backseat they were 25 mg of Adderall.

The pills found in the green box were extremely brittle, the affidavit said, as “the coating would come off very easily when rubbed.” These pills, and all others, were seized. While searching Woodruff’s vehicle, the deputy found a loaded gun, 21 pills that tested positive for fentanyl, 10 Amphetamine pills, 62 Xanax pills, 20 Dextroamphetamine pills, five Clonazepam pills and $2,549 cash.

Woodruff was charged with one count of trafficking in fentanyl, one count of simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms, two counts of possession of Schedule I or II drugs not meth or cocaine with purpose to deliver, two counts of possession of Schedule IV or V drugs with purpose to deliver, and one count of careless and prohibited driving.

He was given a $50,000 cash or surety bond. If Woodruff makes bond, he must wear a GPS ankle monitor. His next court date is March 21 and he’s being held in the Craighead County Detention Center.
