Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Aug. 12, 2025 – The Lighthouse Education Cooperative announced it will be holding its inaugural Lighthouse Clay Classic Trap Tournament to support special needs children in Northeast Arkansas.

The tournament, presented by Alexander’s Machine Shop, will offer participants and spectators a day of clay shooting, lunch, raffles, and community connection while directly supporting Lighthouse students and staff.

All proceeds benefit the school through the purchase of classroom supplies, enhanced sensory learning tools, and staff development resources.

“Events like the Clay Classic help us expand our reach and continue to provide a nurturing, inclusive environment where children and families receive the support they need,” said Dr. Max Stabenow, Lighthouse Education Cooperative executive director.

The tournament will be held on Oct. 4, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Jonesboro Shooting Sports Complex, located at 3702 Moore Road.

Rachel Guerin, Lighthouse Education Cooperative director of donor development, said the school wanted to try something different with the trap tournament fundraiser.

“This is something that’s not done a lot,” Guerin said. “We’ve never done it before but we’re going to see how it goes and so far, we’ve had a really great buzz with it. People are starting to register for teams, and we got corporate sponsorship coming in very quickly, so I think that people like the fact that’s a little bit different than the typical fundraiser.”

This event is open to team participation only and registration costs $375 per squad of five, which includes clays, ammo, lunch, and awards. Participants must bring their own firearm and safety gear. All experience levels are welcome.

Registration for teams is open through Sept. 26, however, early bird pricing is available through Sept. 4 for $50 off team registration fee using the code EARLYBIRD. Spectators get in free.

Pull Partner Corporate Sponsorships are still available. Sponsorships are $500, and allow businesses to provide promotional items in shooter bags, entering a team of five, and more.

A hunting package valued at $3,200 will be raffled off. It includes a two-day Sunkenland Outfitters’ Speckle Belly Goose Hunt for two with guide Jarret Prince valued and one goose mount from Delta Quest Taxidermy and Whitetail School.

Raffle tickets range from $20 to $50, and can be purchased online or at the event. All proceeds will benefit the Lighthouse.

“We invite everyone to come watch their friends and family and support their teams,” she said. “The Sports Complex is huge and beautiful, so come and enjoy. We’re really excited and we can’t wait to see how much money we can raise to help our students and our staff out.”

There is no set fundraising goal, however, Guerin said if it raises $5,000, then it will be a great day. She added she would love to see it raise closer to $10,000.

This year’s song of the summer is a ballad, not a banger. Here’s what that says about us

For the past 14 weeks and counting, the top Billboard spot has been held by a love ballad: Alex Warren's "Ordinary." As Berklee College of Music professor and forensic musicologist Joe Bennett notes, the February release is "a fair bit slower than the mean average for the Hot 100, or for a historical song of the summer."
