Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – May 30, 2024 – A 23-year-old Jonesboro man shot himself in the leg Sunday evening in the parking lot of Colton’s restaurant on Parker Rd.

The victim told Jonesboro Police he was taking his Taurus 9 mm gun apart when it discharged, striking him in the leg. An officer who arrived on the scene applied a tourniquet to the victim’s left leg.

Officer Trevor Vanhouten wrote in his report that the victim said, “He had forgotten that the firearm was loaded.” He continued, “I applied a tourniquet above the injury to prevent further bleeding.”

“While speaking with the victim and people on scene, the incident did not appear to be on purpose, the victim did not appear suicidal, nor did he appear to be a danger to others.”

Emergency medical technicians transported the victim to a local hospital.
