Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – A man already in custody for driving while intoxicated (DWI) faces additional charges after police said he stole his employer’s truck and caused nearly $85,000 in damages during a crash in Jonesboro.

According to an affidavit, on Nov. 18, a victim contacted Jonesboro police regarding 28-year-old Mitchell Thompson of Tahlequah, OK, whom he accused of stealing his vehicle. The victim told officers that Thompson was involved in a single-vehicle crash on Nov. 13 in his vehicle, at which time, he was arrested for DWI.

The victim explained that Thompson was his employee, and Thompson and his other employees were in Jonesboro for a job, staying at an Airbnb. The victim went to bed at 8 p.m. on Nov. 12, which is when he said he last saw his truck. He added that Thompson and other employees stayed up drinking.

At some point during the night, Thompson came into the victim’s bedroom, took the keys to the victim’s truck, and left the Airbnb. Police noted that Thompson had access to four other company trucks at the time, which were said to be located in the common area.

The affidavit said the damages done to the victim’s truck during the crash were $84,946.84.

Thompson appeared before District Judge Tommy Fowler on Nov. 19, who found probable cause to charge him with theft of a vehicle valued at $25,000 or more, and second-degree criminal mischief. He was given a $25,000 cash/surety bond. This is in addition to the $10,000 bond that Thompson is already being held on for the DWI charge.

Thompson’s next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 23, 2026.
