Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – A Jonesboro man is behind bars after police said he was arrested following a high-speed chase involving two sports cars.

District Judge Tommy Fowler found probable cause on Nov. 24 to charge 32-year-old Devante Dalvin Dean with racing on public highways, careless and prohibited driving, improper passing, possession of a Schedule VI substance less than four ounces, and fleeing.

According to the affidavit, on Nov. 22, Jonesboro police officers saw two Dodge Challengers moving at a high speed approaching East Matthews Avenue and Marion Berry Parkway and attempted to stop both vehicles.

One of the Challengers made a right turn onto Marion Berry Parkway and continued speeding, passing another vehicle in the turn lane. This Challenger was noted to have purple underbody lighting. The other Challenger made a right turn onto McDaniel Street. Police said that, when the officer made this turn, he lost sight of the vehicle and discontinued the traffic stop.

However, upon making a left turn onto Hope Street, the officer spotted the tail lights of one of the Challengers in the distance and was able to catch up to it. The officer determined it was the same Challenger with the purple underbody lighting seen turning onto Marion Berry Parkway.

The driver, Dean, was taken into custody. The affidavit added that, during a search of his vehicle, a marijuana cigarette was found.

In addition to being given a temporary $30,000 cash/surety bond due to no public defender being present at Monday’s hearing, Fowler ordered Dean to wear a GPS ankle monitor upon release.

Dean’s next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 23, 2026.
