Man Arrested for Homicide Released from Craighead County Detention Center After Witnesses Change Stories, Assistant Chief Deputy Says

Needham, AR – JonesboroRightNow.com – A man arrested on suspicion of homicide has been released by the Craighead County Sheriff’s Office after they said witnesses changed their stories.

Assistant Chief Deputy Jason Allen told JRN that witnesses deputies spoke with have recanted and changed their stories. He added that the incident is still under investigation and that the public is not in any danger.

Craighead County Sheriff Marty Boyd previously told JRN that deputies were dispatched to 6888 Highway 18 East around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, after receiving reports of gunfire.

When deputies arrived, they found 42-year-old Courtney Mullins lying in the parking lot with multiple gunshot wounds. Mullins was transported to NEA Baptist, where he was pronounced dead.

During the investigation, deputies identified and obtained an arrest warrant for 33-year-old Demetrie Allen of West Memphis. Allen was taken into custody on Monday following a traffic stop along Interstate 55 near the Mississippi-Crittenden County line. Online jail records show he was released on Wednesday at 12:41 p.m.
