Jonesboro, AR – Jonesboro Right Now – A Jonesboro man faces a felony drug charge after police, executing a search warrant following a fatal July 6 shooting, found marijuana inside his home, according to court documents.

Elizjah Bernard Johnson, 23, appeared in Craighead County District Court on Friday, July 31, where probable cause was found to charge him with possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance with the purpose to deliver, a Class D felony. His bond was set at $35,000.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Jonesboro police officers responded to a report of a shooting at Johnson’s residence on Fairview Drive around 7:41 p.m. on July 6. Upon arrival, officers located Johnson unarmed at the scene alongside a deceased male who had suffered a gunshot wound.

While processing the scene under a search warrant, detectives discovered 63 grams of marijuana inside the residence. After being advised of his Miranda rights, Johnson admitted to possessing the marijuana and told officers he sometimes sells it “to make a little money,” the affidavit states. A background check revealed Johnson does not hold a medical marijuana card.

The date, time, and location of the search match an ongoing homicide investigation. In a separate court filing, authorities charged 23-year-old Jeremiah Edrick Northern of Blytheville with first-degree murder and aggravated robbery in connection with the Fairview Drive shooting.

According to Northern’s affidavit, an armed robbery unfolded during a marijuana transaction at the home, leading an unidentified resident to shoot and kill Northern’s accomplice in self-defense. Northern was arrested July 7 and remains held on a $750,000 bond.

Johnson is scheduled to make his next court appearance on Sept. 30 at 8:30 a.m. at the Craighead County Courthouse. If convicted, he faces up to six years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
