Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Nov. 5, 2024 -There will be a Dec. 3 runoff for Jonesboro Mayor.

Copenhaver and Bryant will face-off in the runoff. Harold Copenhaver received 44% of the vote, L.J. Bryant 34%, Jeremy Terrell 15% and Thomas Elwood 3%.

Copenhaver recognizes that it’s a challenge, but he said he’s used to that.

“It’s a challenge every day in the job that I do as mayor,” he said. “I’ll approach it (the runoff) in the same way that I do mayor. I’ll wake up tomorrow, I’ll look forward and progress toward what we need to do to become mayor for the next four years.”

Copenhaver added that he is mindful of the fact that he can’t spend the next few weeks campaigning.

“I’ve got to work, he said. “I’ve got a budget. I’ve got a Citizens Bank building. I have many things and many challenges ahead as mayor, and I think that’s the biggest thing that people don’t understand. I can’t just campaign 24/7. Some people have that luxury. I don’t. I still have to run a city…630 employees and an $85 million budget.”

According to Arkansas law, there are two situations in which a runoff will not occur. The first is if any candidate receives 50% plus one vote. The other is if a candidate receives 40% of the vote and 20% more than the next candidate. Since no candidate met either condition, a runoff will occur.
