Jonesboro, AR – JonesboroRightNow.com – One lane of Main Street will be closed starting Monday for road painting.

According to a Facebook post from the city, Main Street from Huntington to Cate avenues will be closed while road painting is underway. The closure is in effect from Monday, April 20, to Thursday, April 23. Drivers are asked not to park on the right side of the street to avoid paint spray.

“Plan ahead, allow a little extra travel time, and help keep the work zone safe for crews and drivers,” the post said. “Thanks for your patience as improvements are made to downtown!”

The city is reducing Main Street from Washington to Cate avenues to one lane in an effort to make downtown Jonesboro safer for pedestrians. A loading area for delivery trucks will also be implemented, K8 News reported.

This is a six-month pilot program, after which it will be discussed again at city council, with the community to provide input before final decisions regarding Main Street’s traffic patterns are finalized, Lynette Hirsch, community engagement and marketing coordinator for the city, told JRN.
