Parade, Community Fair Participants Still Being Accepted for Juneteenth in Jonesboro Celebration

Jonesboro, AR – JonesboroRightNow.com – Participants for the Juneteenth Parade and Community Fair are still being accepted, event organizers said.

In its ninth year, Juneteenth in Jonesboro, hosted by KLEK 102.5 FM, has a week of events scheduled from June 12-19, celebrating freedom, history, culture, and unity. The celebration will culminate on Juneteenth (June 19) with a fireworks show.

The parade and community fair are scheduled for Saturday, June 13. Churches, businesses, civic organizations, nonprofits, school organizations, and more are all encouraged to participate in both events.

“One of the things that makes Juneteenth in Jonesboro special is seeing our entire community represented,” said LaGanzie Kale, general manager of KLEK 102.5 FM, in a press release. “Whether you’re a church, a local business, a nonprofit organization, or simply a group of friends who want to celebrate freedom and community, we invite you to join us in the parade and community fair.”

Parade lineup begins at 9 a.m. at the St. Bernards Auditorium, located at 505 E. Washington Ave. The parade will begin at 9:30 a.m. The community fair will take place later on Saturday at the Parker Park Community Center, located at 1506 N. Church St., from 4-7 p.m.

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, the day enslaved African Americans in Galveston, TX, were informed of their freedom by Union soldiers, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation’s signing.
