Paragould, AR – Jonesboro Right Now – A Paragould man is behind bars after police said he headbutted one officer and kicked another while being arrested for public intoxication and trespassing.

Douglas Hedrick, 53, was arrested and booked into the Greene County Detention Center on Sept. 29, the inmate roster shows.

Paragould police officers responded to South 13 Avenue for Hedrick being at a home which he had been issued a trespass restriction from earlier in the day.

As officers were heading to the scene Hedrick was found walking down the street with items that had been seen at the home he was restricted from. According to the probable cause affidavit, when they made contact with Hedrick, they noted “a strong odor of intoxicants coming from his person.”

Officers placed Hedrick in custody for public intoxication. The affidavit said as an officer was trying to search Hedrick’s pocket, he “lurched suddenly” and struck the officer’s face with the crown of his head, causing swelling and redness to the officer’s left cheekbone.

Another officer escorted Hedrick to a patrol vehicle. While trying to get him in, Hedrick began kicking the officer in the chest and resisted being put inside. The officer said that the kicks did not injure him.

District Judge Curtis Hill found probable cause to charge Hedrick with the following offenses:

  • Second-degree battery (Class D felony)
  • Interference with a law enforcement or code enforcement officer (Class A misdemeanor)
  • Resisting arrest (Class A misdemeanor)
  • Public intoxication (Class C misdemeanor)
  • Criminal trespass (Class C misdemeanor)

Hill ordered Hedrick be held on a $100,000 cash/surety bond, with the conditions that he have no contact with the victims in the case and not be in possession of any weapons. He will also have to wear an ankle monitor upon release.
