Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – April 13, 2024 – The construction of a swimming pool at Parker Park is expected to be completed by Memorial Day in late May, Jonesboro Parks and Recreation Director Danny Kapales told JRN.

He said plumbing work is currently being done and the pouring of concrete is coming next.

The pool will include a diving board and slide, as well as a shaded seating area along the side. It will also have a 1,500-square-foot restroom facility and pool office.

The office and restroom building are also nearing completion, Kapales said. Construction began on the project last fall.

Bailey Contractors was awarded the $2,917,999.89 contract for construction of the pool in September 2023.

Kapales said the northside of Jonesboro needs a pool because of the large number of children who live in the area. Parker Park is located on North Church Street.

He said swimming lessons will also be offered at the pool.

This will be the second public pool for the city. The other is located at the former YMCA building on West Nettleton Avenue, now known as the Jonesboro Pool Center and Jonesboro Youth Center.
