Trumann, AR – JonesboroRightNow.com – The Poinsett County Sheriff’s Office issued an update Monday morning regarding the weekend shooting on Tulot Road.

A press release from Poinsett County Sheriff Kevin Molder said the shooting was a domestic violence incident. The suspect, 28-year-old Drew Joiner of Trumann, shot the victim, 30-year-old Ashley Williams, also of Trumann, at least six times during the incident.

Williams’s condition has changed to stable, the release said. She was in critical condition Saturday, police said.

The release said Joiner drove away from the scene as officers arrived, then pulled over and stopped on Tulot. Police initiated a felony traffic stop on the vehicle and began issuing commands, the press release said, but received no response from the Joiner.

Deputies used less-lethal bean bags to break the vehicle’s glass, but Joiner never responded to officers. Once police approached the vehicle the noticed Joiner was dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the press release said.

The release noted that the investigation is ongoing.
